Why it works

Why anchored questions beat "rate them 1 to 5"

Most 360 templates hand you a list of traits to score: "Communication, 1 to 5." The trouble is that two people rating the same trait are answering two different questions, so the number that comes back is noise dressed up as data. A "3 out of 5 on leadership" tells the person nothing they can act on.

Every question this tool generates is built the other way round. It names an observable behaviour and carries a short anchor that says what a high rating actually means, so two reviewers read it the same way and the score points at something specific. That is the difference between feedback people can use and feedback they nod at and forget. If you want the longer version, we wrote it up in why 360 feedback comes back vague and in the case for behavioural questions over trait ratings.

FAQ

Good to know

A good 360 question asks about an observable behaviour, not a personality trait, and makes clear what a strong answer looks like. "Explains their thinking clearly," with an anchor like "lays out the reasoning behind a decision so others can act without a follow-up question," is usable. "Rate their communication, 1 to 5" is not. This generator only produces the first kind.
